The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (McGhee Tyson Airport) and the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville are pleased to present “Arts in the Airport”, a new exhibition featuring selected artwork from over 40 artists in the East Tennessee region. “Arts in the Airport” was developed to allow regional artists to compete and display work in the most visited site in the area. The selected art features contemporary 2- and 3-dimensional artwork and will be exhibited in the secured area behind McGhee Tyson Airport’s security gate checkpoint from April 21 – October 20, 2011 with an opening reception on Thursday, May 5, at 5:00 PM. Please note: the exhibition is normally available for viewing only by visitors flying in or out of the airport. Otherwise, artists and their guests may view the exhibition during the opening reception and by appointment with Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority staff. People’s Choice Winning Painting by Julie Bernal | Canoes - Still Water
March 2009 – KNOXVILLE – The Arts & Culture Alliance collected nearly 6,500 votes from the general public to select artwork for the Top 40 Exhibition, a new group exhibition of 2-D and 3-D works presenting 25 artists from Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and Ohio. The Top 40 Exhibition will be on display April 3-21, 2009, at the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay Street,
in Knoxville. A public reception will take place on Friday, April 3, from 5:00-9:00 PM, and a winner-take-all award will be given to the piece attracting the most cash “votes”.
Seventy-four artists submitted 182 pieces of artwork for the show. The Alliance invited the general public, art enthusiasts, and anyone around the world with an internet connection to cast their vote for their favorite ten works! The Top 40 Exhibition features works in the areas of acrylic, ceramics, charcoal, clay, collage, colored pencil, linoleum block print, oil, pastel, photography, watercolor, wood, and more.
